If the cleaning process degraded the chip (faded inlay) then he should have told you. Most of the time cleaning does nothing but remove dirt. No need to mentioned it.

BTW, I cleaned this chip. I dare say I have enhanced it's value. If I sell it, I'll scan it. I see no need to mention cleaning. Of course if he's not satisfied it can be returned.
