Re: Airlines..How About..
In Response To: Re: Airlines..How About.. ()

We cannot allow our airlines to fold any more than we could allow our rail or other systems to cease (or at least be severely crippled). But, there has always been the "Airplane Syndrome" where 100 people die in an air crash and instantly everyone in the nation knows about it and sees it on the news then is scared to fly. Whereas 10,000 people die in auto crashes and most are only reported locally on the back page of a newspaper, and while everyone is aware of the huge numbers, no one gives driving a second thought. Now, take the "Airplane Syndrome" and add terrorist, and multiply X4 sprinkle in another 6,000 victims and NO AMOUNT of reduced airfare or incentives will bring back the customer. The ONLY things will do that are TIME & confidence. The light bills continue for the airlines whether they are sold out or empty, so the only remedy is to keep them afloat from outside the company. There are MANY ways to do that (some good ones have been posted), I don't know what is best, but doing nothing and losing them would not be a good thing. Anyone can start a corner store, not many can start an airline $$$$. We (our government) should wisely intervene in critical business matters for the good of the country. (I expect the last statement will invoke Nazi & Anti-America comments! LOL) My opinion is to help the airlines through these troubled times, using some logic and sense not Carte Blanche spending.
