Re: Freedom of Choice
In Response To: Re: Freedom of Choice ()

No problem Robert. I have owned coins and baseball cards. I would not consider myself a true collector, as I have never tried to a number of coin complete sets nor baseball sets. Don't have the time or money to do this. I have purchased mostly scarcer coins and baseball HOFers. I always felt it was better to purchase a coin or baseball card that had been graded by a third party grading company, that had no invested interest in that coin or card, rather than from a dealer, who could over grade his/her coin or card so he could sell it to me at a higher price. Also, if and when I decided I wanted to sell a coin or card, they are much, much more liquid in a slab, rather than in their raw state. Also, I was finding I would buy a raw coin or card at one grade from a dealer and then when I went to sell it, they wanted to buy it back at another grade. That doesn't happen with a graded coin or card. Once you buy it at a certain grade, you can always sell it back at that grade.

This chip hobby is great and it is just now beginning. Your hobby is going to go through many changes over the next few years. Some will be good and some will be bad. Trust me, grading is not perfect, but somewhere down the road, when prices are 5x what they are today (even without grading, prices of older chips are going up 50% a year from what I hear), you might be welcoming a good grading company into this hobby to protect it.
