Re: Why do casinos issue LEs?

Larry, I don't quite completely agree with your assessment.

'''' if a casino makes 1000 of a chip, they might sell out. If they make 2500 of

the exact same chip, they might only sell 500. The 2500 issue doesn't generate any

excitement. If I believe they won't sell out, I'm in no hurry to get one, and in the long run I never

get around to it. But the 1000 chip issues sell out. I rush to get one, maybe several in

speculation.'''

I don't believe a non-collector cares whatsoever how many of a particular chip is made. I do remember many years ago when I was at the Playboy Casino in Atlantic City, I pocketed one of those $1.00 chips because I liked it and wanted it for rememberance and for no other reason.

'''But if value wasn't a criteria, we'd all be

collecting string.''''

My reason for collecting chips has absolutely nothing to do with value. As a matter of fact, I shy away from the "valuable chips" and tend to collect the low value common LE's and house chips which, if I'm lucky, I might be able to retrieve my investment if I ever decided to sell.
