Re: I suggest RED ROCK CANYON, very close to LV

A second on Red Rock and some other suggestions.

Hoover Dam is a wonderful tour.

Valley of Fire is north of town, more of a 50 minute or more drive on the Interstate. Indian reservation store at the exit has discount cigarettes and fireworks, cold soda pop, ice cream, etc. Self guided walking tour with petroglyphs, stone formations and a nice walk. Continue north to Overton and there's a small Indian museum, and a nice small town for refreshments. You can continue to the Interstate and head home without backtracking.

Hoover Dam is an excellent tour.

If you have kids along, Bonnie Springs, I think it was $5, out a little past Red Rock Canyon has a train, frontier village, craft shops, soda shop with sandwiches, and a saloon with adult beverages. They have an outdoor play with A bank robbery, a trial and a hangin', ;-) which is cute and if it's not 100 in the shade, could be fun.

I have been really impressed with Hoover Dam the three or four times I have visited it. The ride through the mountains is really pretty.

Another road trip that takes less time than Laughlin is head South on the interstate. Two casinos in beautiful downtown Jean and about 30 minutes farther you can visit three casinos at Primm on the CA border. Free monorail rides from casino to casino, and for those inclined the roller coaster is a real hoot!

Did I forget to mention Hoover Dam! Cameras are allowed but no purses, camera bags, fanny packs or anything which security wouldn't like. New parking structure and welcome center.

The M&M store just North of New York NY (across the street) is worth a visit.
