Just when youthought it was safe to use the O-word

Ah - ya'll HAD to know I'd show up on this one grin

ROBERT TOUTS: YES!
JIM FOLLIS: YES!
CHARLES: first statement YES

Is something obsolete just because you can't walk in personally and get it because of location, distance or schedule??? Uh uh... no way.

How about if simply can't check yourself?? Should someone be allowed to claim, sell, and PRICE things as obsolete - simply for increased sales? THIS is the heart of "my beef" because it happens all the time! OBSOLETE suggests NOT AVAILABLE - but not available for reasons many think - they should NOT BE AVAILABLE because the entity that issued it no longer recognizes their value - either by replacing them... closing... destroying them...

How about if they sold out in minutes? or are used as backup chips (frequently)? Does this make them obsolete? NO.

Retired? Unavailable? Sold-out? Gone for good?? "Pulled" or how about the truth: NOT AVAILABLE AT THE CASINO. Sure. These work.

The KEY definitive characteristic falls in the words "BY THE ENTITY (organization) that issued it". THE entity/ agency/ casino should be the ONLY "authority" in declaring/ determining something as obsolete... not the users convenience or ability to procure.

When determining if a chip is obsolete - try applying the following example:

If I drove up with a truckload, would the issuing facility recognize the debt represented by the chips in the truck? If NO - they would not.... the chips are obsolete. If they WILL - the chips are NOT obsolete... they hold the SAME value as the entity that GAVE them their value... and it is the "devaluing" that determines an obsolete status.
