Re: C A N D I D A T E S - a good thing..

I don't think it's "silly" at all. There is nothing wrong with CANDIDATES supporting other candidates who share similar views and/or goals. Equally so, there is nothing wrong with CANDIDATES running independently for club office either. The problem with announcing "TEAMWORK" among five CANDIDATES before getting elected presumes that the candidates who support each other are working as a team on behalf of the club members. Not so. Right now they are working as a team under a common banner in order to get elected.... no differently than in 1998. It's not until after the elections are over, and those who are elected begin to carry out their elected duties, that the real "teamwork" begins, (maybe) .... whether they ran under the "teamwork" banner or not.

If a club member and voter has publically announced support for a particular candidate as an individual, the voter may, or may not, support those individuals with whom the candidate chooses to run. The result could be that club members might withdraw their support for a previously announced candidate and switch their support to someone else ... much like a registered Democrat switches to support a Republican, or vice-versa.

Neal asks; "If you recognize that there are platform caliber issues that can definitely impact the Club’s future direction, and you have an opinion on those issues, why wouldn’t you want to elect a group of officers who would consider putting those programs in place?" In response, I say; Exactly! "So why wouldn't candidates who might get elected and who are not running under "THE TEAMWORK BANNER" not do a good job for the club membership as well?" I'm sure that there are candidates not running under the teamwork banner who are equally as committed to the club's future direction and can work as a team member on behalf of the good of the majority of club members should they be elected to office.

Please, don't anyone misinterpret my post to be anti-Neal or anti-anyone else. Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm merely responding in a general, thought-provoking way to Neal's post.

Members: It's your vote. Use it wisely.
