The True Story

I got 20 (not 23) $1 Flamboyan chips from an eBay auction for $3.52 each. There were 3 different varieties. I was told by the seller that they do not have any more $1 Flamboyan chips.

I was quite surprised at my success in winning this auciton at such a low price. In a couple of previous eBay auctions this chip, I noticed that this chip has sold for a minimum of $25 and as high as $40. I have never seen this chip in a dealer's stock and I thought this was a fairly rare chip. My only pricing reference was Archie's book and the eBay auctions.

Today I got a note from a well known dealer that provided additional information about Flamboyan Chips. I trust him and believe the infomation is true. There may be more Flamboyan chips around than previously thought. This dealer stated that he has sold 30 examples of the Flamboyan $1 chip in the past for about $80 each.

I do not think I was out of line with my prices, do you? I will probably adjust the prices lower. How much lower, I do not know yet. I cannot believe that just 24 of these chips can make such a large impact on the price.
