When it comes to chipping, I have two thoughts...

1. I don't have it and I'm willing to pay a premium for it. So bid what I can afford and be happy if I win it. I was outbid but I didn't pay more than I was willing to spend.

2. I'm not that partial to it but I'll take it if I can get it at a bargain. If I win, great! If not, no big deal.

For those who prefer option 3. I don't have it and I'm not willing to spend a whole lot for it. “I WANT A BARGAIN AND I WANT THE CHIP, DAMN IT!!!” or “I want competition, I thrive for it... so bid it up!”

I can't think of any collector who has been FORCED (maybe pressured) to pay more than they want. We're responsible adults, aren't we. So, if there's a sucker born every minute... he can probably afford it and has the goods to enjoy it.
