Re: A Chip Question From A Novice
In Response To: A Chip Question From A Novice ()

Hi Doug: Since you asked the question; my opinion is that I don't consider these chips as "different". Most chips which have different reverse/obverse designs with multiple side-by-side edge inserts will show these characteristics. The recent "penguin chips" in A.C. have the same edge inserts "reversals" as does the Year of the Tiger from Hilton. If a chip has the same identical center inlay design on both sides, this effect would not be noticeable. When the blank chips with multiple edge inserts are fed into the machine that applies the center inlay.... no attention is paid to which chip begins with a white multiple edge insert vs. one that begins with a yellow multiple edge insert. Flip the "reversed" chip over and the edge inserts will match the other one. I'm not suggesting that those who collect these randomly produced variations shouldn't collect them. If someone thinks they are different and wants to add them to their collection.... go for it.
