Speaking of a side trip to Laughlin, its only an hour and a half from Vegas. On the way you pass through Henderson and Railroad Pass, and through Searchlight. At night, I don't recommend speeding. Although the road is not well lit or well traveled, the Nevada State Patrol all use RADAR. I got caught by one heading towards me on that two lane road. Also watch for plenty of Troopers on that downhill road into Laughlin.

By the way, Mesquite is only and hour and a half in the other direction towards Utah. I believe there's five "houses" now.
