Re: Chip I.D. Please
In Response To: Chip I.D. Please ()

Hi Paul --- There was a Duke's Smoke House in Paso Robles, CA, which used large crown chips. My Jung/Pfaender lists four chips (mustard $0.00 -- roulette??!!<g>, as well as blue $1, yellow $5 and brown $25). I have the latter three, plus a very worn red 50 cent, but not the mustard no value.

I was told by the person from whom I bought these chips that Dukes opened in the 1930's and was a lo-ball card room, particularly popular during WWII. The chips listed in CA chip guide were apparently issued in 1950's. The cardroom was destroyed by a gas explosion sometime in the 1980's, with three people killed. The chip guide gives value of $6-9 for the blue $1 chip. ----- jim o\-S
