My presumption with most unknown HHL-mold chips is that they are probably from California.

As far as I know, beginning in the 1960s, C.W. Rice owned that mold, and they only rarely sold chips to destinations outside of California. They were using it by the early 1960s. Several years ago, Jay P. shared on the board a detail from a 1962 C. W. On the other hand, you might be on to something because Bud Jones (from the Christy & Jones Co. in Las Vegas) in an interview with Gene Trimble, took credit for creating the mold. Gene mentions it on the second page of this article;

Christy and Jones did not appear to use it a lot. It seems that they prioritized the Top Hat and Cane mold that they created by 1958 (also discussed in the above article). They went out of business in 1965.

Do you have reason to believe that these are perhaps the rarer Christy & Jones HHL-mold chips, which were less likely to be sold in California?
