In 2009 or earlier, as an evolution of the Chip of the Year concept, I envisioned a methodology that would point to the top 100 chip designs from all time.

I knew that no one would want to sit down and put together a list of their top 100 picks, in a top-to-bottom order, which could then be blended to create a single list of the top 100 chip designs. 100 chips was an awful lot of work, which meant fewer participants, so I decided to make it more manageable at just 10 chips per person. The idea was to accumulate as many top ten lists as possible and blend those to get to a general consensus of the Top Ten chip designs, and as more and more Top Ten lists were added, over time, the list could become the Top 25, the Top 50, and eventually, the Top 100!

At last count, I had 163 Top Tens, but lacked a simple way to blend those 1,630 selections into a list to figure out the top ten. Those 163 entries are still maintained on my website, and from time-to-time, I get requests to change selections and also add new participants. Several years ago, Charles Kaplan asked me if we (The MoGH) could host my Top Tens to 100! concept on ChipGuide, where the collection of data and presentation of the results could be continuous. It would also solve a problem I was having, and that was being able to display examples of a person's favorites. The images from ChipGuide could be used, where a collector had a favorite, but did not have the actual chip(s).

My original concept was simply 1 point for every favorite, regardless if it was the first selection or the 10th. I still favor this, and cannot recall how ChipGuide tallies the results. (I'll have to revisit that.)
