In the 70s the Beatty Club was owned by Ray and Mae
May. There was no live gaming but a roulette table was
being used to display wine that was for sale. He took me
in a closet where there were boxes of Beatty Club chips
and said he was going to destroy them but I could have
what I wanted but would have to pay face value. I bought
four quarters, a few ones and a couple of fives. I was happy
to get them. That structure in front of the club sheltered
people who were waiting for the bus that used to stop there.
