Last weekend in Las Vegas.

In town to visit my father/stepmother in Henderson who is now 80 and is having some health issues but is thankfully maintaining. We stayed at the Boulder Highway classic, the Skyline. The room was affordable, clean and fairly new being built in 2018 and to our surprise when we checked in, they gave us comp tickets for breakfast for two for the 3 days we were there. A real classic casino w a barber shop, a small two table poker room and a diner style restaurant which is perfect for us as the strip and Fremont are fun to visit but I would never stay there. As some of you know, I mainly collect matchbooks from NV. (I gave up the chips many years ago) and thanks to google maps I was able to call around to the surrounding bars, casinos and restaurants ahead of time to see if they had logo'd matchbooks to collect so we wouldn't waste any time making fruitless stops. We did visit Fremont St. last Friday night which is always an experience, and it was packed!! I've heard reporting over the last few years that business is down in LV however, we saw no signs of that. We also spent an afternoon/evening down on the strip and it was as busy as ever but considering I live in Central City, CO which has a population of less than 1000 residents anything is busy in comparison!! Downtown and on the strip about 50% of the places we visited had matchbooks to collect and many were new to me so that was great to add to my collection and my wife is super cool in helping me collect them!! Many however, had the plain old white generic ones. As far as business being down on the strip I can see why with $18 well cocktails and $12 beers and $30 cheeseburgers, however we were able to find some deals and had a few affordable rounds at the Stage Door. Want to share a few photos from our trip and a couple collectibles I picked up. Have fun conventiongoers in June!! Eric

The best neon on Fremont and for the 1st time ever the El Cortez had no logo'd matchbooks.

The old and the new on Fremont.

Sightseeing at Hoover Dam and stopped by the Lodge, the former Golde Strike and then to Railroad Pass for a .99 cent shrimp cocktail but no matchbooks!!

If you want a great affordable meal at a Nevada classic there's none other than the Rainbow Club!!!!

Made a random stop at Stiener's after picking up our rental car to grab a matchbook and much to my surprise the had ashtrays!!

Paid $25 to park at the Flamingo but that is the norm on the strip nowadays.

It's seedy, it's dingy but it's the only place to get an affordable round of drinks and of course the place was packed!!

Our home base for this trip.

It was an unusually rainy weekend in Las Vegas getting a record .25" on Saturday and another 1" on Monday. However, the overcast skies made for excellent photography as the sunsets over the strip and another fun trip to LV.
