EXCELLENT post, John! 😊 My thoughts…

…On some of what you said.

The hobby does have a younger crowd. Plus as you said, a number of them are more into collecting sets to play poker with, either in racks or barrels. That is not new though, they have been around for a number of years now. They are just as passionate about the way they collect, as single chip collectors. But the younger crowd these days does not seem to like joining clubs. I know I was excited to hear there was a club of chip collectors about six months after I started collecting. But that was in 1996, times have changed.

Plus as I have pointed out before, collectors don’t need the CCA, the CCA needs chip collectors.

I really like your idea of cutting the convention down by a day. I understand that most people enjoy it the way it is, but the harsh reality is that the CCA should cut back, simply because they desperately need the money. Also, before anyone says that the convention pays for itself, how about it making some money instead? Or just not spend what that extra day would cost?

When you said that the club represents the need of members from 1995 to 2005 I could not agree more. We are now in 2022 & the CCA needs to step into the future if it wants to survive. One thing is the CCA website. It is antiquated & hardly anyone cares about it or wants to use it. It should be the face of the CCA. The younger generation sees it & just moves on.

As to the MOGH…I have always been a big supporter of it & will continue to support it. Even if we never have a physical building, the exhibits put up can only bring more people into the hobby. Hopefully they then decide to join the club.

Lastly, I thank ALL of those who are now volunteering or have in the past. It is a thankless job with no pay.
