As I said, I have spent large amounts of money just to get there. Also take note -- I purchase a large amount -- money wise -- from the dealers selling on the convention floor. If there was a chip I needed, I always found a way to make sure I had it or making arrangements to satisfy a dealer concerning price by other means. How is that different than trading chips and cash? Several dealers have asked to trade with me since they know I collect very nice condition chips.
Here's my agenda -- not in order -- to having a pleasant experience each year. First I always volunteer to help the club working in different booths doing my share of helping the club's finances as sometimes they struggle to get volunteers.
Secondly, I attend the club seminars, which is a very integral part of learning what experts have to say about information I need to be a better collector and understand about subjects of historical significance.
The club auctions are fun when the showroom is closed, and the social gathering where club member exchange personal chips has always been an added bonus -- Splashy Awards, etc.
And, the poker tournament is also a relaxing venue for after floor hours entertainment. There are other activities that abound during the almost week-long event.
As my dad used to tell me, "Son you get out of it what you are willing to commit by joining and participating in what's available." He was absolutely accurate on that account.
