What the heck is a Paulson spotted inlay?

Please Explain?
I have read articles.
I have looked at pictures
I don't see or understand where the "spots" are or how to identify "spotted".

Can someone explain this in cavegirl language?
This is a chip that can be spotted.
If this is... can someone explain what I should be seeing and post the comparable unspotted?

Or... if not the spotted version, can you show me the spotted one and point out where the spots are?

I am confused.
