Coconuts around Palm Beach!

But you're there, I'm not, so I don't care to start a Bagel War. The United Nations should serve bagels. Did you know it's impossible to declare war with your mouth full of bagel?

We used to have a chain named I & Joy Bagels out here. I worked near one of their stores and would buy a bag of day-old bagels for something like 2 bucks. Sometimes they slid a Bialy in there to make the weight. Or, bagel chips some of which contained garlic so were not wise to nosh on if you wanted to speak to your boss anytime later in the day.

Alas, I & Joy was bought up by another company and then most of their stores closed. We still have Western Bagel Baking Co. of Van Nuys. "The roll with a hole." You can see where this is going. To get their day-old bagels one has to drive to the railroad underpass on Sepulveda Boulevard, they are high-priced and usually hard enough to break a tooth on, not to mention generally flavorless.

You can also buy bagels at the 99 Cents Only Stores, who keep the prices at that level by removing bagel after bagel from the bags as the years go by. At this point I think it's a "special price" of $1.99 for four bagels.

I've got a good mind to move to Palm Beach, find those decent bagel spots and chow down!
