When I say no connection I mean the food was named after the person and not the city.

The Earls of Sandwich go back to 1660, when 1st Earl Edward M decided to go with the name of the city for certain reasons and not what he previously planned; Earl of Portsmouth... and when John M, 4th E of S directed how he wanted his meal served the other players who followed asking for the same said that they wanted what Sandwich ordered and not what the city was named... It's all very clear... grin
