The Clubs were not casinos! They issued chips for

their members only. And although many had house games, like BJ, they did not have roulettes and again only members could play. In many of these clubs only poker and member to member games were played.

Please note that the Casino Español was a Spaniard Club, not a casino. The word Casino was used to describe the "Center" of the different regional Spanish Colonies in the island and there they had their "entertainment center" where gaming was always offered.

/Interesting is the fact that, at first, the members of all of these numerous Casino Españoles in the island had to be Spaniards born in Spain, called Peninsulares, because of the Peninsula Iberica. Only in late century were the Cuban born children of these Peninsulares allowed to become members and participate in the different activities of the Casino Español.....

The Havana Casino Español was the strongest financial and political institution in the island and no government official was probably elected without the support of this entity. This powerful entity was still strong when Castro destroyed the island and its people!
