Oregon, or maybe Scotland

These chips may be from Oregon, but I have another lead.

I was looking online to see what plant that "pineapple" might actually represent. Pineapples do not grow in Oregon. A growing pineapple does not look very much like that image.

It does look a little bit more like a growing artichoke, several varieties of which are grown in California.

But I think that Ron may have hit it on the nose with the thistle connection. Looking for images of thistles I came across something called the "Order of the Thistle", an order of chivalry in Scotland. Some versions of the emblem are similar to the image on this chip.

I imagine that a member of the order might have wanted to use a version of the emblem on his poker chips. So this might represent a shield emblem, and the mites and tites, might really be an attempt to represent a three dimensional shield, or perhaps rust stains on an old family shield. Hmm, I'm don't know.
