The U.S. Mint uses . . .

FedEx Smart Post, a service that combines the slowness of all possible services. My orders from the Mint have been "upgraded" to "priority" shipping via FedEx Smart Post (which enables Fed Ex to deliver to post office boxes, among other things). It has taken 10 days and 12 days for my packages to arrive. I know as a regular post office shipper that the USPS generally takes 3 days to ship across country using Priority Mail.

One problem - but not the only problem: FedEx stops operating on weekends. My packages halt all movement.

These extended shipping delays have caused me to re-evaluate my purchases from the Mint. A friend has encouraged me to pay extra for expedited shipping, which I might do in the future. It has also convinced me that FedEx's reputation for speed and efficiency has become an illusion.
