Re: BankNote of the Day- Combat Cash (Part II)

AFRICA

A piece of United States history, a "North Africa" series note. When Dwight D. Eisenhower started the "Operation Torch" campaign against German Field Marshall Erwin Rommel (the "Desert Fox") in North Africa in November 1942, General George C. Patton and his U.S. troops carried this unique currency with them. Since the U.S. was worried that large amounts of U.S. money would fall into enemy hands they created a series of emergency bank notes solely for use of troops in that area.

Special Silver Certificates were also issued as payment for Allied troops in North Africa about to begin their assault into Europe. The only difference on these one-dollar bills was a yellow instead of blue seal. Both of these types of notes could be declared worthless if they fell into enemy hands. ENJOY!!!
