Soup #5 Philippine style!
In Response To: Like shark-fin soup??!! ()

No I don't side with any group of people either here in America or anywhere else in the world - I formed my opinion indepedently based on some facts know.

There is a growing problem in Nevada about wild horses - some says that there are people who shoot to kill for fun, others butchered them for food - make jerkey's. I read some articles now and then about them. Yes there are some horse farms around even here in the US.

I have not eaten horse meat that I am aware. But if there is a horse meat and I am starving and hungry I would without hesitation partake to fill my hunger (animal instinct). I don't think that I will ask my wife to cook me a horsemeat either. Across culture I know for a fact that horse meat is eaten. Bison for instance I shy away. Rabbits too. I have not eaten a donkey or a deer that I am aware of. I have a deer hunter friend who beg me to take one home but refused.

Dog meat yes when I was a kid my grand parents observed the August Moon tradition - no choice at all. In PA and NY Asian markets they sell illegal dog meats which are banned and punishable. Since I came to the US in New York City - as student and came back again as an immigrant I have not touched those things, not even to think about it.

"with malice toward none" was a caveat not to offend any reader. I hope I have not offended you or anybody. I don't need to apologize also.

Yes, I personally like shark fin soup - since I move to Las Vegas in 2006 without a chance of going back to New York City restaurants I have not eaten the shark fin either in soup or as a trimming in so oriental cooking. I am not aware if they have them in casinos or other restaurant but I suspect there might be available. I don't long for them. Even snappers which I collect I don't care so much for them.

With regards to the fin(less) sharks dying and polluting the sea - they are abhorable - at least they should have brought them to shore to bury or giveaway to peasants inland for food. I ate shark meat especially cook with black bean sauce. I ate fried locusts when I was a kid. Maybe you are aware that the shark fin hunters are basically interested only on the prize fins. I read recently a whole specie of tuna was auction in Japan for $1 million. If you care to Google maybe you will find the article. I ate eels - 5 years ago they cost $4 to $5 now they cost the same zise and weight and manufacturer is not costing $16 a pack. I swifted my protein needs to anchovies and Indian Mackerel.

In the rural areas of the Philippines they have tilapia fishpond feed with "rice paddy rats" and some farmers for lack of protein they barbecue them, I have not witnessed but I will not eat them.

I (76 yrs old) belong to a family of 13 brothers and sisters. I know for a fact that we don't eat the same food right now, but we all went through the same rituals when we were growing up. There are 5 brothers and a sister here in the US. How different we are when we come from the same roots? Simply look at your hand either palm up or down see the fingers are not the same, this is just to emphasize who different we are and to generalize to the township, cities, countries and across cultural divide we are different in each and every way.
