No simple explanation.
However, I see you are hosting the image externally.
You cannot host an avatar externally, you have to load it by using the browse button on the PROFILE page.
If you then enter the same URL in the optional image box when you post, then yes, it will appear in both places.
Max size of the avatar file is 15k. Any bigger and it will just fail.
