Old poker Chip Question? Machined style chips

I have a few of the "Machined" style poker chips as described in Dale Seymour's book. I was wondering who actually made these chips? There is a manufacturers sample from TK Specialties on that mold. Was TKS the actual maker of the chips or only a distributor? It seems the inlay and surface being called "Machined" is a misnomer . The surface circles are pressed into the chip as a mold design and I would think the inlay would have to be there when the chip was made/molded. Any thoughts?
