mention a important point. I would like the clear up, most people, do not understand. Why did GM need a bailout and Ford didn't. I worked for GMAC for 33 yrs. retired as Branch Mgr. many yrs. ago. It was GMAC's fault that GM was broke and couldn't get any further loans. Ford had lost money on car & truck sales like GM in recent yrs. but, had reserve dollors, and ability to get loans if needed. GMAC made a huge mistake when they drifted away from the founding presidents reason that GMAC existed, to promote the sale of GM cars & trucks. In the 80's GMAC formed two real estate subdivisions, Ditech Mortgage, and GMAC Morrtage. Ford credit didn't do this. As a result of the bad home loans, among the top five outfits in home loan losses, this took GM down. Most people think it was just bad cars and trucks and bad management. NO, it was bad home loans. The GM produt has improved the last 10 years and they make cars and trucks as good as anyone. I hope GM can be profitable, repay all goverment loans, and become a smaller, but profitable company, I wish the same for Ford also. The auto industry is so important for our economy to recover.
