I understand and agree

I have to agree completely.
In the past and I'm sure in the future also, whenever a catastrophic event might occur somewhere in the world, the world will unite to help.
The unfortunate part is what that seems mean is that the United States usually gets to foot 90% of the bill and if that isn't bad enough, our thanks in many cases consists of people spitting in our faces for our efforts.
I'm all for pitching in to help but like you said in your post above we shouldn't forget about our own FIRST

I'm all for giving all the humanitarian aid that is needed but with domestic problems like we are facing, we can't afford to continue being the worlds piggy bank.

The U.N. is a perfect example where the U.S pays approximately 22% ( a mere 9 countries pay 75% of the regular budget) and and oil rich country like Saudi Arabia contributes less than 3/4 of 1% I wonder how much humanitarian aid they are sending to Haiti

I would be curious to know if any country has ever attempted or for that matter offered to repay any of the monies advanced to them to get back on their feet
