Re: OK... I'll bite.
In Response To: OK... I'll bite. ()

Charles

I came to the chip board for a fair assesment of the value of these before i decided to sell them or keep them. 1st I did some research online and found what some of the green chips had previously sold for. I then looked up some dealers online and made some calls and recieved severals offers to "Buy the whole rack for $500" or "I'll take them off your hands for $1000" the odd thing about the calls was they already knew about the chips because of Matt's post on the chip board. On one call I said I had "some" Playboy Bahamas chips, again I said "some' and he replied with " well you see the amount of chips you have drives the price down so they are not worth alot, especially because they are not Vegas chips, i'll give you $500 for the lot." I never told him how many I had. I recieved emails telling me that ALL of the chips were worth $50 - $100 each but I got one bid for the $500 chip at $250 and now my inbox is flooded with people offering to buy them from $200 to $250.

I think you can understand now why I was skeptical. If I found an old baseball card I would buy a beckett and check the price, from what I understood there was no price set in the chipguide for the $500's because no one had seen one and nobody else owned one. The casino has been closed for 27 years and NO chips like these have ever showed up. Yes I thought that meant they were rare, but boy did I recieve numerous emails from people trying to make feel stupid for using the word rare on ebay. What was I thinking, using the word rare. The sheer audacity I had to use that word. You see I thought to NON - Chip Collectors maybe a Playboy Memorabillia collector 1 of 31 known in the wold would be considered rare. The funny thing about every negative email I recieved was at the end there was an offer to buy. The offer was always considerably lower than the current price on ebay while the auctions were still running. So everyone told me they were not worth anything, but everyone wanted to buy them. I considered my supply to be small when I first started but I thought the chip collecting world to be a lot bigger than it actually was, and from what I have learned especially regarding the carribean chips.

To call me greedy is just another example how rude people have been towards me since I started this. You do not know me yet you insult my integrity. I am not greedy, I just want to get a fair value for the chips, and since people have consistantly tried to lowball me and insult me for not responding to offers like $250 for a set and $125 for a $500 chip. If I had a car for sale that was worth 4,000 and I wouldn't sell it for 2,000 would it be fair to call me greedy. People have posted personal conversations that I thought I had with them in private for all of world to see on this website. That angered me greatly, in the email that was posted it was stated again that the chips were worth $50-$100 each and again they offered to purchase a set. If you consider me greedy because I am considering keeping them to myself, well they are mine to do with what I choose and the chip collecting world really hasn't inspired me to let all the nice and polite collectors out there have them because they mean more to them than they do to me. Instead I recieved nothing but negativety from a lot of people.

I will continue to hold on to them and hopefully continue to listen to offers. After all of the emails I jokingly told Matt that I should take 26 of them and put them under the drill press, then there would only be 5. I was told to be honest about the amount of chips and I was. I told the true story about how they were acquired in 1983. All this did for me was start up a bunch of emails (Which I will never Post out of respect for people's privacy) and people call me ignorant ( which is obvious when it comes to chip collecting), stupid (thats how low some of you stooped) and now Greedy. I hope you are happy calling honest people who are trying to get what they consider fair price for their goods GREEDY.
