In Response To: I learned a lesson long ago ()

At Royal Ascot, probably 12 years ago.

I had a small straight forecast bet for the favorite and a rank outsider in only its 2nd or 3rd outing (because the odds were so big and the jockey was Frankie Dettori).
I think it was only a 6 horse race only paying 1st and 2nd, and the favorite and 2nd favorite came home 20 lengths clear, so no-one even bothered looking at who came in 3rd.
It was the last race so we were on our way out of the track. There was an announcement of a stewards enquiry. We'd seen a little jostling on the home straight so assumed that 'interference' could only possibly lead to the result being reversed.
We were already in the parking lot across the street when the announcement came that the 2nd favorite had been DSQ for something earlier in the race.
My rank outsider was now placed second. There was me and two friends, and Lori (who was blind drunk as most women are after a day at Royal Ascot) charging back to the garbage can by the door we left at. We found it and tipped the contents out on the floor grin Went through and found the ticket pretty quickly. It paid something like $2,500 for a $10 bet.
Since then I dont throw my tickets away until I get home grin
