The main thing is this -- a credit card is the buyer's best friend on the internet. You should always use PayPal and your credit card TOGETHER to buy on eBay. It gives great peace of mind, so you have the threat of a charge-back (and an actual charge-back) if worse comes to worse.

In the past, if you had a balance in your PayPal account, you couldn't opt to use your credit card to fund your PayPal payment, say to buy something on eBay; you had to use the PayPal balance funds first. So what I and others did was to transfer the money in the PayPal balance to our bank or some other way. Then, having a zero balance, you could use your credit card to fund the PayPal payment. That is the rule in effect today, with one big exception. I have a "PayPal Plus Credit Card," and I can opt to use that credit card as the default for all my PayPal payments, EVEN IF I HAVE A BALANCE IN MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT!.
