I like this comment someone made in reply to the story;
"Let Mohegan bid to take over the Tropicana but when an Indian corporation purchases a property off the reservation site, they should be required to start paying taxes to the state and feds of their original site also. Expansion into non-Indian territory should place a tax on any and all properties owned and in addition, require the inspection and audit of their books."

Wow, someone sure sounds angry. Perhaps the Indians took his or her land and forced his/her family to move to Oklahoma.

I believe when an Indian tribe owns property off the reservation, they are subject to all the same laws as other owners. I know here in Detroit, where a tribe owns the Greektown casino, the tribe is subject to the jurisdiction of the Michigan Gaming Control Board (which has no jurisdiction over regular tribal casinos). Greektown is taxed like the other two casinos in Detroit.
