So, I have a road trip from mid-day Wed 3/5 starting in Vegas, ending afternoon of Thu 3/13 in Tahoe. I need help! I want to play some poker, see some sights (historical/cultural/nature, rather than tourist traps), go for a long run every other day, maybe catch some live music, and in general experience Nevada. I enjoy driving, but do not want to spend all my time in the car. Among the obvious options:
- See the small gambling towns of western Nevada like Pahrump, Beatty, Tonopah, Hawthorne, and Fallon
- Not sure if there is something to do associated with Nellis AFB or Yucca Mtn.
- Spend some time in Reno (I have done that before recently, staying at Silver Legacy, based on excellent recommendation of chippers)
- See Death Valley
- Visit Yosemite Natl Park if the road is open in March (I have done that before, years ago)
- Visit Virginia City / Carson City (I spent a few hours there recently)
- I may reserve 3/12 to spend in North Lake Tahoe, since I have always stayed in South Lake Tahoe and only lunched up north.
My gaming preference is poker, cash limit games preferable, NL or tourneys also acceptable. Table games limited to blackjack and craps at very low limits, mainly for the free drinks and social fun when poker is not open.
Also -- I have had zero success stumbling onto Nevada chips at yard sales and thrift stores here on the east coast. Should I be stopping at small flea markets/thrift stores/yard sales in Nevada since I imagine much more of a likelihood of something coming up?
Any ideas on must dos or must avoids? After I settle on a tentative itinerary, would be happy to pick up chips people need. Will post that later.
