Belated Atlantic City Long Trip Report

It has been over 12 years since my wife and I have been to AC.
We use to go to the big Antique show at the Hall around St. Patrick's Day.

We also went when the Casinos first opened and stayed at the Sands.

Asking around my friends where to go now, no one goes there from this area.

Just check the Airline schedule from Louisville to AC. It does not exist.

Let me tell you, AC is the BEST kept secret on the gambling circuit.

We had the best overall time of any Casino trip we have taken in over 25 Years.
And no we didn't win a lot of money either.

Having Caesar's comp us a plane trip from Cincinnati, really KY airport, a very nice room, and some of the best food in their Diamond lounge truly aided in our enjoyment.
Looking on the Internet for discounted airport parking. I found $7.00 a day plus the first day free. They took you to the airport in your car, so you did not have to shift luggage, then they picked you up in their shuttle and had your car waiting under a canopy when you returned.

The short 1:45 minute flight from Cincy to AC airport was like clock work. Buses waiting at curb to whisk you to hotel. You give your bags to driver and the next time you saw them, they were in your room.

Betty found the wide open gaming floor, with much of it non smoking now a true joy.
Got the average play time for your money.

We went to the Tropicana to cash in a coupon my daughter had given us. I played $2 - $4 Poker for the first time in my life. On a Sunday night you find just regular people playing and they try and bluff their butts off. I took about $121.00 from them in a half hour. While waiting in a long line to cash my chips I talked to a cocktail waitress who was cashing in her tips. She said the new money COMPANY that has taken over the Trop is coming in and trying to run it. Unlike Caesar's, where they are leaving it alone, the new Trop owners are cutting corners and ruining the property. They didn't have ice for the bars and had to buy from 7-11. Rooms were not getting cleaned and from the very long line at the cashier station, they cut there too. People will not go and spend their money at a place where they feel they are being short changed. I bet this is going on in Vegas too.

We rode the $2.00 Jitney to the Trop from Caesar's. The buses have improved since the early 70's and the ride is not as wild.

All in all my Poker playing in 5 sessions, I won 2, lost 2, broke even on one. I found the players to be very friendly and the dealers helpful too. I netted around $55.00. Probably $2 - $4 is not a good game to play, because of the small pots with high % rake. They did have a bad beat tied into 4 other Casinos. It was uo to $120,000.00. About 3 grand gets add every day.

Archie told us where to get free tickets to a show at The ShowBoat. Frankie Randall an older local fellow who use to sing with Frank Sinatra. He also had a lady who has done over 22,000 commercial jingles. An Ok show for the price, probably not over 125 in attendance on a Monday night.
We walked the Boardwalk back to Caesars.

The biggest improvement was the pier that is directly in front of Caesars. When we were there 12 years ago, I think there was an Orange Julius at the end of the pier and if you looked up, you saw holes in the roof. Now Caesars owns it and it is a mild version of the Las Vegas Forum shops. Eight hand bag Stores. There is a dancing waters show at the end and a Disco on the 3rd floor. They are building a auditorium on the fourth floor. They have a very nice observation deck at the end out in the water and you can look back to the shore for a nice view.

Caesars is connected to Ballys by way of the Wild Wild West Casino. Harrahs has a large shuttle bus that will take you to their other properties free. In talking to a patron, he was telling me that THe BORGOTA is where the younger patrons hang out. I suggested it must be like the Palms in Vegas. He said that was a perfect description.

Being out of money the 3rd day, we took the Wyndayms time share tour and received $85.00. They gave you your $40.00 deposit they hooked you for when you got out of the Showboat show in cash back, but the $75.00 plus $10.00 Jitney fee was given to you as a coin voucher which you had to cash in at the TAJ some 3 blockes away. The presentation was full of hype and BS. I am reporting them to the NJ Board of Realtors and Better Business Bureau for thier deception of presentation and not giving you cash.

While watching the TV in the room, I see that Caesars is having REBA in their Circus Maximus room on June 29, 30. Tickets are $100 - $150. The kicker Caesar's is having Jimmy Buffet coming to the Hall on the 30th. If we can score some tickets to both events, I already have booked the rooms, and I am hoping for a cancellation on a sold out tour again from Cincy, Betty and I will return. I see no reason to travel to Vegas when AC has so much to offer and has a much shorter airplane ride.

I know I gained 4 lbs at the Caesars Diamond lounge. Betty goes to gamble, I go to eat and see the shows. A little Poker is nice too.

Archie, you have a jewel in AC in my opinion. We hope to return soon.
