From an aught, alteration of a naught

I'm no entymologist, but I think it's just a lazy prounounciation of "naught"... Like when Americans say "dijoo" instead of "did you"...

That would explain why aught is slang and ought is not.

It would also explain why it means zero...because Naught means zero...

Not so...."dijo", is not used as much as "joo" *vb
Personally I use "dija" like in "dija know?"
