Neighbors, section and orphans bets basically divide the wheel into pie-like sections.

Neighbors bets can be made a number of ways. They can be three chip bets where you bet one number on the wheel, and the bet also covers the numbers immediately to the left and right of it on the wheel.

Bet five chips, and the neighbors bet covers your number plus the two numbers immediately to the left and right of your number on the wheel.

Then there is the Zero Neighbors bet, which requires nine chips. This bet covers more numbers, but it is also more complicated than the smaller neighbors bets. This bet covers zero plus seven numbers on right, and nine numbers on left of zero on the wheel. It places two chip corner bets on 0/2/3 and 25/26/28/29, and it places one chip split bets on 4/7, 12/15, 18/21, 19/22 and 32/35.

A Third Section of the Wheel bet is primarily on the opposite side of the wheel from the numbers in the Zero Neighbors bet, but it doesn't cover as many numbers, nor does it cost as much. This bet is six chips, and it covers numbers from the 33 to the 27 on the roulette wheel; one chip split bets on 5/8, 10/11, 13/16, 23/24, 27/30 and 33/36.

An Orphans Split bet is a five chip bet, and is one chip split bets on numbers 6/9, 14/17, 17/20, and 31/34, and a straight up one chip bet on the number 1.

A Full Orphans bet is an eight chip bet that covers 0, 6, 9, 14, 17, 20, 31 and 34, each with a one chip straight up bet.

The French table at the Paris had separate places on the table layout for the Zero Neighbors, Third Section and Full Orphans bets (if I remember right -- it has been about 6 years since I played) so the bets were easy to make. Just place nine chips in the Zero Neighbors spot (or eights chips on the Full Orphans and so on), and the bet was made. They didn't distribute the chips to the individual spots (numbers) on the layout. The croupiers had to be on their toes when someone was playing these bets! They had to know what numbers each of these bets covered so they could pay the winners when the numbers hit. ...probably why the table usually had three croupiers working it, as well as its own pit critter. grin

Whew! rofl
