Color Primer

Based upon my years of work as a Quality Control manager at a job-shop painter, I can't answer the question directly, but here are some rules of thumb in color naming.
1. cream is a a slightly off-white color with the sense of more yellow than red and is usually only slightly saturated.
2. Beige is noticeably more saturated and darker than cream, with the addition of more red.
3. Tan is noticeably more saturated and more saturated then beige, and is usually more saturated.
4. Orange is made up of white base, yellow and red.
5. Dark Orange is made up of white base, but more yellow and red so is more saturated. There also may be a touch of black to darken it.
6. Rust is made up of white base, yellow, and significantly more red than yellow, is highly saturated with color and often has black to darken it. It is a pronounced difference from orange, which is bright, whereas rust is dull.

Sorry, but no matter how you do it, color definition with words is still pretty subjective, and I would suggest if you have all three chips, take them into a daylight situation on a bright day between 10am and 2pm, or a daylight balanced light, and put them next to each other.

Unfortunately, while only 1% of women have color defective vision, over 12% of males suffer from it. And, that doesn't include color blindness, which is also predominant in males.

Besides men generally not caring much about color, that is why many women shreik in horror at the color combinations of their significant males.

For those interested in their ability to sense the difference in hues, I suggest the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Color Discrimination test use by artists, paint matchers, and anyone in quality or manufacturing of colored products.

The other option is to buy a stamp collector's color guide - but their terminology is very specific and related to inks on stamps.
