While it is illegal to discriminate against many things such as race, religion, creed, age etc. discrimination itself is not prohibited. Employers are bound by law in many instances and by the dollar in others. The general public can and will discriminate and fail to patronize a business for any reason and no one can stop them, it’s sad but true. Business’ want to look appealing to the public to attract business that is not illegal its just good business look at Hooter’s for example. Personal hygiene is another good reason to discriminate against a qualified person. We discriminate with every decision we make; is this one best or is that one best, but I like those more. Is the car the right color, the right price, does it sound racy enough? Business’ do things influence our discrimination of other products, services or people doing the work. I have seen commercials of service companies with people in India answering the phones, is that not trying to sway you against Indians? Of course.

People who look like those in the picture I posted are setting up hurdles that prevent themselves from many opportunities. Is it wrong? No, but the results are fact. A major league basketball icon appeared on Jay Leno once and Jay was asking him about the appearance of some of the players with tattoos, purple hair, and such. The player remarked that kids should NEVER do that, or at least until they are making $22 million a year THEN it’s OK to do whatever you want! I thought that was some pretty sound advice!

Even if this guy does not work around the public, one has to wonder if this guy is marching to a different drummer than you or your business. (As Archie Black pointed out). OR… This guy might be just the freak to put out front to attract the curious, either way his appearance will make the determining factor whether he gets the job or not.
