why to concentrate on the high value stuff

As to why to concentrate on the high value stuff (which unfortunately I didn't follow my advice), here is a quick response: they keep their value more and increase in value more; they give you less items to look after (less heavy chip volumes kicking around); they are easier to sell when you or your heirs want to dispose of some or all of the collection; on the other hand if you have a lot of cheap common chips they may be impossible to sell; and finally -- you will be prouder and happier looking at and showing a small collection of beautiful looking rare stuff (and maybe in good condition), than tons of cheap common stuff.
