There is no restriction forbidding the carrying of them, but I have NEVER gone through Houston airport security without having to pull them out and show them. In Las Vegas I usually get asked "Are those casino chips" from the x-ray guy and they pass with out a problem. I suggest having them easy accessible so they can easily get at them. The last thing you need is to completely unpack to get them at the bottom.
