When I came back from the convention, they yelled "bag check" as soon as my chips went into the xray.
Who knows what they're doing now???
But if you have lots of chips with you, make sure that you politely request a "private inspection" if they call bag check. It's your right (recent events notwithstanding), and the TSA people tend to be a lot friendlier in the private screening rooms. And this way, you don't have to let everyone waiting on the security line eyeball your chips
