Another part of the Borland jigsaw??

Maybe, maybe not grin

Gene was given these shortly after GGS bought the Borland stuff from Jerry Wall. He was told they were Borland but did not pay much attention. He showed them to me "I dont think these are anything - you can take them if you want or they are going in the trash" grin

When I saw them I immediately recognised they were mainly for the hotstamp chips Borland had counterfeited + more.

Other than what we already know for sure, I doubt I would ever find out which of these he actually used, but this is what we have:

27 plastic boxes, showing black ink impressions from hot stamp dies for 45 different dies.
The boxes themselves are about the size of the boxes commonly used to store 6 dice, but about twice as thick, just thick enough to hold two stacks of chips.
They may have been used by Borland to store samples of chips he had made, a couple showed evidence chips had been in them at some stage.
They may have been the cases the original dies came in, but, Im not sure such boxes would have been big enough to hold 2 & 3 dies.
Borland may even have inherited them 'as is' from Bud Jones.

As I said, Im not going to speculate as to their purpose or usage, other than to point out the majority of them just happen to be the same dies Borland did use for the counterfeits he definitely made. Also interesting to note there are die impressions there, and indeed Borland counterfeited hot stamp chips for, casinos which BJ never had as customers in the first place.
That makes me think the boxes were Borland's doing, but raises the question why did he have non-BJ hotstamps and where did he get them. Unlikely we will ever know.

Im suspicious of certain chips that always seem to be uncirculated and always seem to be in quantity, like the $5 Silver Star Nevada Mold. The dark hotstamp foil has all the Borland 'traits' but I could never prove it.

As a result of this 'discovery', there will be a few chips I will be on the lookout for my collection grin

Regardless of all that, to me, its another part of the Borland story. Enjoy grin
Its a large pic - sorry if its slow to load.
