That's the way I do it. In fact I scan in several chips at one time then use the "fixed size" select to select a chip, then use "crop" to reduce the image to just the single chip, do a "save as" for that chip, then do an "undo" to undo the crop, select the next chip and repeat.... Seems to work pretty well. I used to used the select in the scanner software but it is much easier in Photoshop.
