Actually, 1989 was my first "comp." I didn't even know what that was at the time...
I had been playing craps at the 4 Queens (of all places LOL), and when the waitress came by for drinks, I ordered and gave her a $10 and asked if she could get me a pack. She had this weird look on her face, said "wait a sec," and said something to the pit boss.....he looked over at me and nodded, and the next thing I knew I was signing a form that said "comp tobacco."
Next thing I knew I had a free pack and she a $10 toke.
Of course nowadays it's "well sir, you need to accumulate about 4500 more comp dollars in your account and we'll reconsider your request."
*sigh*
BUT...I did quit smoking once...it was the hardest 15 minutes of my life
