I'm watching a Mapes chip on eBay now with the 'DG' initials. You can't see them in the photos. I asked the seller if she knew what they meant. Her reply was "The Mapes closed and sold their chips for investment purposes. They were stamped with the person's initials." I don't know if she meant the person that bought the chips or what. I'll try to find out more.
