Hi, thought I'd hop on the 2 reference source concept also.

I have used the TCR from the get go because they have developed a reference numbering system for all of the chips. The grading system in both guides have alot of variation in them. The methodology of collecting their information varys wildly from watching ebay, going to auctions, to watching this board and looking at prices.

In the 10th edition of the TCR there are actually two books. The second book shows a timeline for all previously listed chips showing whether the chip has become more or less valuable between editions.

I have tended to blend the prices of both to give myslef a reasonable estimate of value. When I sell on ebay I use the TCR valuation becuase it is more often then not a lower evaluation and I like to set my prices fairly low.

There are a myriad number of chips out there that will go up and down in value simply based upon the number of times they have been offered for sale.

The number of people collecting increases each year and the number of previously unknown chip hoards or singles does as well, both impacting prices!

Finally, there simply is no set price for the chips in either guide. It's a matter of which guide you like and whether or not you want to command/pay a higer price for the chip realizing that someone is sure to (OUGHT TO!) look in both guides! IMHO!.
