question re: vast difference in chip value estimat

Hi All,

I have a question for the community.

Up until recently I've only had "The Official U.S. Casino Chip Price Guide" to use as a reference book. I've just recently received "The Chip Rack". Both are current versions.

I've attached a scan of a Mapes NCV chip that I bought recently. The Chip Price Guide has this as an r-9 rarity rating with a value estimate of $50-$100. Conversely, TCR (if I'm reading it correctly) gives it a 'D' value code which is just $10-$14.

I'm really curious as to just what could account for such a variation in value?

Your collective help figuring this one out is much appreciated.
