I have used a hot-air source to soften the chip material and pressed it against a flat surface. An electric paint stripper gun seems to work. Approach the chip gradually and get it just hot enought to be flexible; I repeatedly pick it up and drop it on a ceramic surface... you can tell from the sound when it has softened. Use your hand to press it flat. I haven't damaged a chip yet, but it is certainly possible to do so.
